Guests who rent Historic Shadow Point for their family vacation in Key Largo will enjoy many extras, including the use of paddle boards, kayaks, floating tubes, life jackets, and snorkel equipment located on-site. Shadow Point has a private sandy beach for swimming, snorkeling, sunbathing, and launching kayaks into the beautiful waters of Largo Sound. We have plenty of sand buckets and toys for the little ones to have fun at the water's edge. Also available for use are a gas barbecue grill and equipment. There are several shady spots to have evening dinners outside or fun picnics under the gumbo-limbos. We have two fully- stocked kitchens, one in each house. There is even a full laundry facility in the Cottage for the convenience of our guests. Rinse off in the outdoor shower behind the Cottage when you come in from kayaking.

Activities

Swimming, sailing, canoeing, and kayaking are all activities enjoyed at Shadow Point. Boat rentals, parasailing, reef diving, and fishing excursions are nearby. Some of the local attractions include Theater By the Sea, a marine mammal park five miles south; Swim with the Dolphins three miles south; and the Key Largo Community Park, with swimming pools, tennis courts, and a fitness trail is a half-mile south. Be like Bogie on the African Queen! Take a 90-minute tour on the famous restored steamboat from the 1951 movie, just four miles south. Shopping and restaurants are only minutes away.

Attractions

Shadow Point is a great home-base for dive enthusiasts. There are many boat rental companies and dive charters to take passengers out to such famous wrecks and artificial reefs as the massive USS Spiegel Grove, and former Coast Guard Cutters, the Duane, and the Bibb. The spectacular off-shore coral reefs of John Pennekamp State Park and the famous undersea Christ of the Abyss statue are also just a short boat ride away from Shadow Point. Because of this, many of our guests are avid ocean lovers that return yearly to explore, fish, dive, and to hunt for Florida spiny lobsters, during the August 6th - March 31st season. Birders and wildlife enthusiasts can access one of the nicest entrances to the Florida Everglades National Park, just over an hour drive from Shadow Point. Also, less than one mile in either direction on US-1 (Overseas Highway), guests will find two grocery stores, Winn-Dixie and Publix, as well as many bars, restaurants, clubs, and nightlife. Close by are shopping and many other places of interest.
